Social Logins & Federation

Introduction:

In today's connected ecosystem, users expect to sign in using their existing, trusted identities. Forcing a new account for every service creates friction, leads to user drop-off, and increases password fatigue. A modern identity platform must be able to act as a central broker, seamlessly connecting to a wide array of external identity providers.

GoAM is designed to be a universal identity hub. It abstracts the complexities of protocols like OIDC and SAML into simple, reusable nodes within the authentication graph. This makes federation a core, flexible capability, allowing you to connect to social providers, enterprise directories, or government-backed identity systems just as easily as you would handle an internal password.

Use Case Example

An online shop can use "Login with Google" to ease sign-up, allowing for an almost zero-click registration process right at checkout. This dramatically reduces friction and increases conversion rates for most purchases.

However, for products that require age verification, the shop must also integrate with a privacy-preserving government ID, which may use a completely different protocol like Oid4VP. The node-like structure of GoAM allows the shop to mix these methods, dynamically stepping up the authentication to include the government ID check only when a user's cart contains an age-restricted item.
